How Small Agencies like Lewis County used Virtual Training to Overcome Route Challenges in a custom Simulator

Lewis County Metro is a small rural agency with a small budget, and its drivers face difficult routes that require specialized training.

The Challenge

Lewis County needed a way to improve training for drivers handling complex routes, including a tight bridge scenario and the Portland-to-Seattle bike race, which created havoc for their drivers. They didn't have millions to spend on a sim, so wanted a cost-effective simulator that could grow with their needs without breaking the bank.

Our Solution

After several design sessions and route visits, we designed a series of virtual training scenarios that specifically targeted Lewis County’s problem routes. By creating simulations for the tight bridge and bike race scenarios, we provided drivers with an opportunity to practice these challenging routes in a safe, controlled environment.

Power in Numbers

Implementation

Lewis County then integrated these virtual scenarios into their existing training program. Drivers were able to practice and gain confidence in handling these difficult situations without the pressure of real-world consequences. The solution was also adaptable, allowing for updates as the routes or challenges evolved.

01.

Improved driver readiness for complex routes, leading to fewer accidents and safety incidents.

02.

A cost effective simulator solution eliminates the need for on-the-road practice in risky conditions.

03.

Increased confidence and job satisfaction among drivers who were better prepared for challenging scenarios.

Results

The virtual scenario training has made a huge difference. Our drivers are now better prepared for challenging routes, which has resulted in improved safety and confidence on the road.
