How PT Upgraded Driver Training with a Small Footprint Simulator That Grows With Them

Pierce Transit prioritize driver safety and high-quality training for their employees, and together we devised a suite of h/w and s/w that was affordable and scalable.

The Challenge

Pierce Transit needed a small-footprint, affordable, and upgradable hardware simulator. The agency required a solution that could simulate custom scenarios for driver training without taking up too much space or costing too much. They wanted to improve the realism of their training while keeping it adaptable for future needs.

Our Solution

We worked with Pierce Transit to design a compact, affordable simulator that could be customized with various training scenarios. This flexible solution was designed to be scalable and upgradable, ensuring it would meet their evolving training requirements. By incorporating cutting-edge technology, the simulator could simulate a variety of driving situations in a controlled, cost-effective environment.

Power in Numbers

Implementation

We delivered a simulator solution that not only fit seamlessly within Pierce Transit’s space constraints but also provided the flexibility to create custom scenarios tailored to their specific training needs. While the original plans and budget accounted for a single simulator, strategic planning enabled us to fit 3 (three) driver learning stations into the same space, all for the price of one traditional simulator. Additionally, we integrated a "trainer oversight module," empowering instructors to monitor and guide sessions more effectively.

These stations are now in daily use at Pierce Transit’s training facilities, and fully integrated into their existing curriculum. To keep the training program fresh and relevant, we provide quarterly updates aligned with evolving learning requirements, ensuring continuous development opportunities for both new and experienced drivers.
